In exchange for a mirror that gave her sight beyond sight, she gave the fae her heart, and then she jury-rigged a whole bunch of magical alchemical bullshit to protect herself from basically being shackled to the fae’s will through her heart, because hey, if you can, that’s what you do.
But what happens if your heart is no longer your heart?
What happens if the Fae bind your heart to someone else?
What happens if your heart is now wrapped in different royal blood from the kingdom the Fae told you specifically you’re not supposed to conquer?
And that was Snow.
The most beautiful, weirdest, most uncanny-ass baby you’ve ever seen. AND she had that weird undercooked look all human babies have. A semi-formed little beast. Can you imagine looking at an infant and knowing it’s going to burn down everything you’ve ever built? Can you imagine knowing that trying to smother this threat in its crib will burn everything down, too?

Oh shit, says Big Chris.

Wyatt swallows. “I was always sad that we weren’t that close.”
“I wasn’t,” Little Chris says, so fast Wyatt’s a little insulted, frankly. “You were already - Jesus, Wy. You were already the sun. I didn’t want to get burned.”
Wyatt kicks his ankle. “I love you, dumbass.”
“I love you too,” Little Chris says. “But you’d have hurt me. You wouldn’t have meant to, but you would have.”
The waves crash against the shore. Wyatt digs his fingernails into his palms. It would break the other Wyatt, to hear Chris say this, but this Wyatt is okay.

She has lost her family. Martha has seen the look in her eyes before, and now she will make a choice, born out of loyalty to her friend and the people who will need her.
“We’re coming with you,” she says, and without waiting for a response, she disappears back into their flat. “Mickey, pack your bags!”
Mickey already has a suitcase open on their blue duvet when she walks into the bedroom. Martha thinks about what this means for only a second, a brief roar of old jealousy, then dismisses it. She watches Rose follow her back into the bedroom to watch them pack; she looks stunned and moved all rolled up into silence.
Then she leaves. Comes back after an hour with two fresh keys. Threads them onto two thin chains and offers them up like she is standing at an altar.
Martha fights the urge to tremble as she accepts the sacrifice that she is about to make.
