Summary
Naim fought to keep his face neutral, hoping his hesitancy—and irritation—wasn’t showing. He could deal with this, surely. As long as his mom doesn’t bring up the fact that Naim lied about being friends with Ryan—
“I’m just so glad Ryan and Naim are friends now!”
Fuck.
“Oh, are they?” Ryan’s dad asked politely, glancing at his son with warm eyes. “Ryan didn’t mention it, but he’s always been rather quiet. You know, teenagers—I’m sure you understand, Arlene.”
“Of course,” Naim’s mom replied with a smile. “They talked about school—right, Ryan? Maths, Naim said it was.”
Ryan, all of a sudden, seemed ten times more engaged in the conversation—looking between Naim and his mom with his eyebrows slightly raised.
“Yeah,” Ryan replied, his stupid blue eyes practically glowing with amusement. He glanced at Naim, a small smirk plastered on his face. “Naim really doesn’t like polynomials.”
Or,
When Naim and his mother move to a new Christian rural town, tucked into the back corners of Australia, Naim isn’t sure if he can adapt. Luckily (or unluckily), a curly-haired blonde boy seems to change that.
A prequel to Leviticus, from Naim’s perspective.

Summary
His mercy was now intrinsically tied with his damnation. It wasn't always easy to separate the two; in the dark after waking up, in between the sheets when Ryan would grab him too quickly, in the moments where they did wander into another room without the other. The entity had become accustomed to the lack of opportunities and had begun appearing faster as a result. A bathroom break could lead to a concussion, stepping outside to grab the mail leading to a battered torso.
It was never fast enough to kill them, but that didn't make it any less grueling. Naim would never forget looking up at the face of his coveted while his lungs burned, feeling the air being crushed out of him and only being able to think, my beloved, my beloved, my beloved.

It’s better these days. The further they leave Bandi in their rearview mirror, the freer he feels. Like he can slip out of his restraints. He doesn’t have to twist himself into shapes to fit in, or hide behind silence and small talk. Instead, he can grow.

Summary
Ryan slips from his bed like he's done every night for the past few months and treads the familiar coastal path down to where the streetlight fades and the shoreline is hazardous. He doesn't cut the soles of his feet anymore, now that he knows where the most jagged areas lay beneath the shallow waves, so he's quick when he picks his way across, heading straight toward the lounging silhouette of a boy who exists only to corrupt and kill, if the tales of his town are to be believed.

Summary
Naim and Ryan, out of money and with no long term plan, find themselves in a small town living out of a motel room. While they save up money, the two are forced to navigate the realities of running away, first loves, and staying alive.
Somehow this has become porn with plot. Maybe it's the teen boy hormones infecting their brains.

Summary
“Gonna be late for class.” Ryan’s eyes are a little red around the edges. It makes the blue of his irises stand out, almost supernatural in the watery lighting of the tiled bathroom. Naim is enthralled. “Don’t really care,” he breathes, watching those blue eyes flicker down to his lips.
Naim knows he should be scared. His heart is hammering in his chest, beating against his ribs, already bruised where he’s been fooled before. He should be terrified, but there’s something in Ryan’s gaze, in the soft brush of his hand against Naim’s, that he can’t bring himself to fear.

Summary
“Fuck off, cunt!” Naim yelled, thrusting the flame closer toward Ryan. “I know it’s not you. I—I know he wouldn’t be here.”
“It’s me,” Ryan said, his voice now edging on desperation. “Fuck, it’s me, Naim. Please—just please tell me it’s you.”
“Prove it,” Naim growled, hating the way his heart hoped.
Or,
After the confrontation with the pastor’s daughter and his encounter with the entity, Naim goes to the Church instead of the grocery store. Against all odds, Ryan’s there too.

Summary
"Naim." The way Ryan said his name was unlike his mother or his teachers or like anyone else in his life. It was so gentle, always gentle. Like he knew being too loud might scare Naim away, like he was something worth being patient with. "Look," Ryan said with a short sigh. "Just talk to me okay? Tell me that you're here. That you're real."
Or: Rynaim are tired. Naim's emotions are too difficult for him to push down. Ryan helps.

Summary
Ryan exhales, smoke slipping past his lips. “Did it ever touch you?”
Naim’s stomach churns. He curls towards Ryan, shifting onto his side, as Ryan’s gaze lands on him, piercing. He shakes his head.
“Good,” Ryan says, lifting the cigarette to his mouth.
Naim thinks of photobooth pictures, of hot blood trickling down Ryan’s neck, of flame and fear. He presses a soft kiss to Ryan’s side, over his ribs, over the soft cotton of his shirt, and inhales his scent.

Summary
Ryan gestured for him to come closer, biceps flexing with the action, and Naim was helpless to anything but follow.
Soft hands laid ever so gently against his face, holding him like he was something delicate. Maybe he was. Naim had never felt quite so home as he did when he was in Ryan’s embrace - like he could just forget for a brief moment about his mother’s cold glare and religion and a man that had never listened and just exist, staring into the eyes of someone who had seen the vastness of his sins, shrugged and let out a so what?
The weight, for once, felt like more than just his to bear.

Summary
An entity wears the face of whoever they desire most, and solitude gives it room to hunt. Bound together by fear, Naim and Ryan travel through coaches and cheap motels, trying to outrun a punishment shaped exactly like love. But as guilt, grief, and unspoken betrayal follow them, Naim begins to wonder whether Ryan stays because he loves him — or because the monster wearing Naim’s face has left him no other choice.
-
Yet Naim knows it’s watching, waiting to rip him open like spoiled fruit. He hears the flies buzzing and feels himself rotting into something sticky-sweet and dripping, splitting down the middle.

Summary
“Please.” Ryan begs. The thing moves closer. “Not when you look like him.”
I changed my mind. Don’t kill me when you look like him. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die looking into his eyes. I don’t want this to be the last thing I remember.
Ryan doesn’t want to die because he wants time to love Naim. He wants to hear Naim say he’s sorry for what he did, wants to kiss him and push him away and pull him back in.

Summary
“Sorry,” Ryan didn’t sound sorry. “Seriously, come on. Just one? For me? I’ll let you take a swing at me if you don’t like it.”
He waved the pack in front of Naim again as if that would increase its appeal. The grin on his face was infuriating, but Naim liked proving people wrong, so he plucked out a single cig with an angry mutter.
“There ya go,” Ryan praised and leaned in. His own cig was still burning while Naim had his between his lips, new and unlit. He kept his eyes on Naim’s as he brought the tips of their cigarettes together.
“Breathe in,” he guided quietly. “Slow.”

Summary
It had seemed too good to be true. They hadn't spoken much since that day, but while Ryan didn't believe in curses, he thought Naim might.
Still, Naim had been the one to pull him into the booth. Ryan had been thinking he had gotten through to him, as they climbed in together, before not thinking at all.

Summary
He wakes up, to the same consistent rumble of the bus, but at an entirely different angle. Ryan’s let him shift, all the way down, his head and the tops of his shoulders cradled against Ryan’s thighs, which, for the record, is so comfortable it kind of scares him. It feels like Ryan is an extension of Naim already, and when he blinks, slow and tired and a little confused, he can see the way Ryan presses his lips together, like he’s trying hard not to smile.
It’s too bad. Naim likes it when he smiles. Naim thinks he likes most everything that Ryan does.
