They sent two science officers to save Earth. One who wanted to go, and one who didn't. Dr. Hannah Knight was the backup, insurance against the mission's single point of failure. But Ryland Grace couldn't face the void alone, and protocol be damned, two heads are better than one, even if neither of them can remember the friendship they left behind.
Now they're strangers with ghosts of familiarity, hurtling toward a star with nothing but their training, each other, and the weight of a world that expects them to die but also send answers home. Following the events of the book and the movie, scenes you loved, scenes you missed. This is the Hail Mary mission as it might have been, with two people fighting to save Earth and everything that comes along with it.
Some bonds survive even when the memory of them doesn't.
I've written this for fun, it's a little indulgent but hey isn't that part of what fanfics are all about?
