Summary
Ryland Grace saved Earth. He saved Erid. He was supposed to die a hero somewhere between the stars.
Instead, he kept living.
As the years pass on Erid, Ryland finds himself caught in a strange kind of grace period: a life he was never meant to have, in a body and mind slowly losing the battle against time. Far from Earth, alongside Rocky, Adrian and the world that became his second home, Grace has to answer a question no mission training could prepare him for:

For once, Rocky didn’t comment on my leaking face. Didn’t call me gross or make fun of me otherwise. So I did it for him.
“Yeah,” I sniffed, half-laughing through it. “Humans leak, ew.”
Because, well—
This might be the last time I ever cried.
“No, Grace leak as much as want. Is okay!” Rocky rushed in immediately, all urgency and overlapping chords.
“Well, you weren’t going to, so someone else had to do it.”
He paused. “No understand. Is joke, question?”
“Yeah,” I said, sniffling a little. “It’s a joke.”
