Summary
Buck pulls Eddie into his arms, tucking Eddie’s face into the curve of his neck and curling down against him. They lean into each other like those trees that Buck had told him about, woven together in such a way that the trees wouldn’t survive separation. Inseparable under the threat of death. It makes sense with the way that Eddie’s heart had felt when he thought—when he was under the impression that—

Summary
Buck makes Eddie a playlist. Eddie goes snooping.
They figure it out.
----
“—Eddie’s been listening to the same playlist since he was born, I doubt he’d know any of these,” Buck laughs, and Eddie’s head snaps up, brows in an offended furrow.
“Hey, that’s not true,” Eddie says, feeling oddly defensive about a subject he wasn’t aware that he had strong feelings about.
“You’re telling me you know who Sabrina Carpenter is?” Buck asks, disbelieving and unbearably sarcastic.
“I listen to the radio, Buck,” Eddie says, rolling his eyes. Buck just raises an eyebrow and Eddie feels a little offended again. “Yes, I know who Sabrina Carpenter is.”

The dream fades, and Eddie elects to ignore it. There’s no reason to worry over a dream he doesn’t recall.
What he can’t remember can’t hurt him, right?
Eddie starts having dreams about a very specific someone.

Summary
Leaning toward the mirror, [Buck] shoots himself a wide, sleepy smile just as the bathroom door creaks open. He flinches back, one hand gripping the edge of the sink to keep himself upright while the other flies up to catch the door.
It’s just Eddie, and Buck opens his mouth to say hey, it’s ok, go back to bed, but the words die on his tongue as he spots the fear in Eddie’s eyes. It’s quick, there and gone before Buck can really react, replaced by relief that Buck barely registers before Eddie is slotting himself against Buck’s chest and tucking his face under Buck’s chin.
OR
Buck has a weird dream, Eddie has a nightmare, and for some reason this helps them figure it out.

Summary
He opens his mouth to ask them what that was all about when he feels something odd. The back of his neck tingles like someone is watching him and something in his gut turns. It’s almost anxiety but not quite, like he’s aware that something has happened but he has no idea what.
Like a jedi, his mind supplies in a voice that sounds a lot like Buck. There’s been a disturbance in the force!
OR
Sophia Diaz talks to Buck, makes some assumptions, then promptly tells her brother that he’s gay.

Summary
“I have loved you,” Buck said, “across fires, floods, earthquakes, mistaken identities, one brief period where everyone believed I was a secret prince, and the unfortunate week when you were cursed by a jealous botanist.”
Eddie’s mind snagged. “A what?”
“But even if all that vanished,” Buck continued fiercely, “even if every memory burned away, I would love you still. In this life. In the next. In whatever strange world dares to separate us and call itself real.”

Summary
“I have no idea what’s going on.” He was embarrassed at the whiny note in his voice, but he couldn’t swallow it away. “I mean, the last thing I remember, I was telling my parents that I was leaving Texas. And then all of the sudden I wake up and it’s like—”
Like some stranger named Buck had infiltrated every corner of his life. That’s what it felt like.

Amnesiac Eddie tries really hard to hate Buck. It doesn’t stick.

Summary
This is all perfectly applicable to friendship. Friendships require effort. Intentionality. Sometimes you have to watch a minute long Instagram video about attracting men to figure out how to get your male best friend to come back to your house and fall asleep on your couch again. Or in your bed. Either one.
Whatever Buck's comfortable with. Eddie's not picky.
Eddie will take whatever proximity Buck is willing to offer and be grateful for it, and if that sounds desperate then fine, it's a little desperate, but it's friend-desperate, which is a completely different thing than regular desperate.
He replays the video and takes mental notes, formulating a plan that is simple: get Buck's attention. Spend more time with Buck. Stop feeling like his ribcage has been hollowed out with a melon baller every time he goes forty-eight hours without hearing Buck laugh.
Easy and straightforward. He’s got this.
Or,
Five times Eddie tries to show Buck how much he misses him; plus the one time he just says it.Series

Summary
Eddie realized dimly that his hand was still lifted, phone pressed to his ear, the call still live – Buck’s voice spilling through the speaker, thin and panicked and far too loud:
“…Eddie, what is happening? Talk to me. Eddie.”
He should have kissed him before leaving the house, Eddie thought, as his knees gave out.
He should have kissed him more, period. Every chance he got. In the kitchen, from behind, hands wrapped around his waist. On the couch, during the quiet lull of a movie neither of them was watching. In the parking lot before a shift, just because he could. In the locker room as the bells went off – a good luck charm tucked just out of sight.
He should have stopped acting like there’d always be another time.
Or,
Eddie refuses to talk about his feelings until the universe literally shoots him about it.

Summary
The LAFD tasks the 118 with hosting community game nights, and Eddie shows up to every one with a different woman on his arm.
Buck doesn't care. He's not going to care. It's certainly not going to drive him to the edge of insanity.
(OR: Buck doesn't ask Tommy to move in. It changes everything, and nothing.)
