As soon as Logan woke up, he knew it was going to be a rough weekend.
Thankfully, the pain in his joints was still in the achy stage, but it was going to be a bitch to power through all the same. He felt drained, his body heavy and dragging. He wanted nothing more than to just remain in bed for the rest of the weekend. Being a lump in bed sounded like it would be much more enjoyable than hauling himself out of bed to get ready for FP3. By the time he made it to qualifying, he knew he'd feel like shit.

Oscar was the one who saw it first. He wondered if that was part of why he'd come. A desperation to hold onto Logan just like how Logan needed to cling to Oscar.
Logan had known it was coming. It had been obvious for months. If it was obvious to the fans (and Logan had seen the fan comments and theories) then it was even more obvious from the inside. James was good at saying pretty words, but all one needed to do was see his dead eyes to know that they were just that; pretty words.

He was tired of fearing for when his seat would be pulled out from under him because James had been trying pretty damn hard. He was tired of being borderline sabotaged and then blamed for it. He was tired of hurting.
He probably shouldn't be willing it into existence but it was just all so much. He was as overwhelmed as he was tired. He wanted to go home. He didn't really have a home any more.

He'd pretty much given up on painkillers. Acetaminophen had never worked for him and ibuprofen had quickly lost effectiveness, so when he found himself popping more than the recommended safe amount, he gave up on it. It really wasn't cutting it anyway and he couldn't afford to fuck up his liver as an athlete.
There was the standard general soreness that really never went away even after he'd stopped growing. But sometimes things just… got worse. After a race his wrists would hurt for hours. It always felt like they'd been wrenched but that didn't make sense. No amount of strength training he did did anything to help. Sometimes he just woke up wrong and his joints would just be agonizing. It felt like someone had shoved a sheet of metal in the joint. It burned and throbbed and felt like things were out of place even when they weren't. Sometimes it made sense, like after he did a particularly tough race, but other times it just… hit him. He couldn't explain it.

"Your best is more than good enough, Maxy," he said, soft, just loud enough for Max to hear him over the sound of the other guests. "I don't want you thinking that way. I know this is still hard for you to believe, but you take care of me just as much as I take care of you."
Max nodded, acquiescing. He believed that Daniel believed that, but he'd never known any different. He hadn't had a serious girlfriend since college, had never experienced an adult relationship, the sort where you shared your burdens, could truly lean on someone else.
And Max loved his Daniel more than anything. He deserved that.

At Max's insistence, Daniel reenters the dating scene. It's all going rather well, until his new partner shows a side of herself that has him crawling back into the shell that Daniel had spent so long coaxing him out of.
But it's alright. It's all alright. Daniel was happy, and that's all he really wanted.
