With the Connections, every bit of kindness had a motive behind it. To get her to behave, or to learn just a little bit about how to play the role of a normal child. (A reminder she would never get to be one, whatever that would have been like.)
Thinking about it, she still isn’t normal. Other children’s outbursts don’t include mold, and other children would never wake up from bad dreams of a swaying boat and sharp needles.
But, that doesn’t seem to matter with the Bakers. Whatever Eveline’s normal is, they’re willing to to accept with open arms, even if it’s rough sometimes.

The Guardians are captured and Peter is taken to their captors to be questioned. Instead of torturing him, however, the interrogator injects him with a truth drug. Due to his hybrid nature, however, the serum works a little too well: Peter can't shut up and starts babbling whatever comes into his mind. Frustrated, his captors throw him back into the cell to let the serum wear off. Unfortunately, that means that the Guardians are stuck with a drugged up Peter who can't stop talking!Peter talks about really painful and private stuff like how lonely he was before he met the team or how his childhood was really messed up and how unsure he is about his role as their leader.
