He'd been hunting through the Seventh Ward when he heard it. Heavy, indulgent bass notes that pulled at his ribs. Echoing drums and clanging guitar in curious competition. After minutes in this fashion, the guitar settled into submission with the rest of the piece. A low, haunting voice took its central place.

The docks of Salineas were usually a bright crowded place that reminded her of a street market (but with a much stronger smell). Recently though, they had gotten quieter. Mermista understood, of course, given the constant, damaging attacks from the Horde, but as long as she still had a crew and a ship, this port would be her favorite place to be. It was a pity she had to leave it behind so often.

There was a trader who was willing to give him an apprenticeship, not yet realizing the disaster that would bring. Mermista had been pulling in a fishing net the first time she saw the fabled sailor of fire, his body slicing through the ocean as a ship burned down behind him. She had rolled her eyes at his pleas for help, knowing full well he could stand up in the water, given his proximity to the beach.
