Work Text:
Izuku hops onto the bus stairs, clumsily almost falling on the second one as he enters the rather large UA vehicle. But he doesn’t look down in embarrassment or see if anyone saw him trip, he just jumps up onto the next stair and smiles to himself. He’s very clearly oblivious to a purple pair of eyes watching him in amusement, the fluffy haired boy getting to the last stair with another hop and turning to walk down the aisle looking for a place to sit.
When he catches those purple eyes he brightens and takes a seat right across the aisle from Shinsou. “Hi Shinsou!” Izuku greets enthusiastically, hands tapping his legs rapidly in his own energy. “How’re you? I mean, I saw you in class n’ everything but this is our.. Third? Third trip together! And I’m excited? Nervous but excited- and, how’re you feeling???”
Shinsou lets out a snort that makes Izuku’s head tilt, the other boy shaking his head in an oddly fond manner.
“I’m feeling alright, I guess. You do realize you sat next to Aizawa-Sensei, right?” Shinsou points out with an eyebrow raised, making Izuku glance over at the apparently filled seat by the window. He makes eye contact with Aizawa who also just raises an eyebrow and blinks slowly.
“That’s okay!” Izuku says when turning so suddenly back to Shinsou, making the taller boy’s eyes widen momentarily. “Unless you wanted me to sit next to you? But I think I heard Kaminari say he wanted to talk to you? So I’m okay with sitting here!”
That gets Shinsou’s smirk to waver, and Izuku doesn’t see Shinsou sigh because Aizawa pokes his shoulder to get the boy to turn to him. Izuku tilts his head at his teacher, then lets out a little confused noise when his teacher hands him a protein bar. He tilts his head the other way in question, and his teacher squints at him judgingly.
“I didn’t see you eat anything this morning.” Aizawa huffs, turning away and leaning heavily back into his seat. “You need your energy, otherwise you’re going to shake it all out with how much you’re moving right now.”
Izuku stops his leg from bobbing up and down at being called out and flushes in embarrassment. He stays quiet as he opens the protein bar and takes a small, hesitant bite. Then blinks in surprise at the flavor of smores. He eagerly takes another bite, and doesn’t see Aizawa’s fond eye roll or Shinsou staring him down softly while begrudgingly scooting over for Kaminari to sit next to him.
The rest of the bus ride consists of Izuku talking Aizawa’s ears off as soon as the man decides to ask him about the notebook he writes in and Shinsou listening while seemingly having a conversation with Kaminari.
When the bus comes to a stop, Izuku immediately stands up to let Aizawa pass him and stand at the end of the aisle. He faces his class with a deadpan look, “Alright. Everyone will get off the bus and stay behind me as we enter the building. There, you’ll put your suitcases into the rooms you’ll be staying in. Your roommate will be decided once we’re inside, it’s two per room and if I see any of you sneaking into a room that is not your own there will be consequences.”
The class shivers at that, but all nod their heads and standing when Aizawa gestures for them to do so.
“Let’s go then. And do not Cause a ruckus.”
Izuku is the first to follow, staying close behind Aizawa and smiling at Shinsou when the boy quickly catches up to walk behind him.
Izuku does not see Kaminari trying to catch up too or Monoma getting off the second bus and immediately spotting Shinsou.
He really, truly, does not see. He just merely rambles quietly to Shinsou about his excitement for all of them getting to work under a certain hero organization together for two weeks. It was a place that specialized in introducing young heroes to the work fields they’re all going into and simulating it realistically. They would also be helping volunteer at certain charities and orphanages- which Izuku was especially thrilled about.
Aizawa pokes his forehead to snap him out of his rambles, Izuku looking up at him with wide eyes and his teacher sighing while gesturing forward. “All of you decide on a partner and room together, the rooms are on the third floor to the left. A hero should be up there to give you each your keys once you’ve decided on a room and partner. Is that clear?”
A nod from both Class A and Class B.
“Okay. Again, do not cause a ruckus. I may not be the teacher for Class B, but this applies to all of you as well. I will not hesitate to kick you back to UA.”
Another collective nod, though a bit more nervous.
“Go.”
They all walk forward, some taking the stairs and others the elevator. Izuku follows Shinsou like a puppy when Aizawa leaves towards where the teachers are staying. Shinsou seems happy with this, though Izuku isn't sure. He also looks annoyed.
Izuku glances behind him, head tilting at Kaminari and Monoma glaring at each other while also following.
Weird.
Izuku turns back to Shinsou and lightly pulls on his sleeve. “Are you okay?”
Monoma and Kaminari pause, and Shinsou squints over at them before looking to Izuku.
“...Yeah. Hey, you want to share a room?” Shinsou questions, eyes softening at the way Izuku immediately brightens.
Monoma and Kaminari choke, and Izuku just rapidly nods.
“I’d love to!” He hasn’t gotten to spend too much time with Shinsou, he thinks this’ll be a perfect opportunity to do so!
“Great.” Shinsou grabs Izuku’s hand, making his face heat up lightly as he’s dragged up the stairs.
Monoma and Kaminari stay behind, frowning but then slowly looking at each other.
Izuku doesn’t hear what they say to each other because they’re too far away for that, but he does question in his head why they could be together so much. It was… an odd, relationship. To say the least.
But if they were friends now that wouldn’t be so bad!
Izuku settles his things down in the room he now shares with Shinsou, squeaking when a pillow suddenly hits his head. He turns so quickly towards the culprit with a pout, but the same pout softens when seeing Shinsou holding back a laugh.
“Mean.” Izuku huffs, throwing the pillow back and nailing Shinsou right in the face a little too hard, Izuku brings his hands up to his mouth in shock because he really didn’t mean to do that and now Shinsou is on the floor. He thinks he’s messed up, but then he hears a wheezing laughter that makes him relax and let out a giggle.
“Okay. Point taken.” Shinsou laughs as he stands up, tossing the pillow onto the bed with a ‘plop’. “So, you were talking about a quirkless charity earlier, right?”
He listened?? Izuku nods rapidly and immediately jumps back into the rambles he was directing at Shinsou earlier, the boy listening with actual interest that makes Izuku feel special and happy.
Aizawa eventually knocks on all their doors one by one to come get them for lunch, Izuku and Shinsou walking down to the dining hall side by side- Shinsou looking down at Izuku with the most fondest look as the boy rambles.
Izuku doesn’t see Kaminari and Monoma slowly advancing behind them, Shinsou however, does and Izuku tilts his head in confusion when the taller boy grabs his hand and picks up in speed. But Izuku thinks he connects the dots when he sees Todoroki in front of them along with Tsuyu. Shinsou probably wanted to talk with them too. That made sense.
He fails to hear the whine from Kaminari and grumble from Monoma, they were probably just hungry anyways though.
Izuku sits with his food alongside Shinsou who hasn’t left his side, which is honestly a little unusual but not unwelcome. He rambles to Tsuyu and Todoroki in front of him about how cool the building they were in was and about their plans while Shinsou stays.. Suspiciously quiet this time.
Izuku, being as oblivious as can be, does not see Kaminari and Monoma AGAIN, sitting near Shinsou and making ‘conversation’ with him. Which is really just Monoma and Kaminari talking while Shinsou looks mildly uncomfortable.
“May I be blunt?” Tsuyu suddenly says when Izuku ends a sentence, making everyone look to her.
“About?” Izuku questions, head tilting. He looks over to where Tsuyu points, and blinks at Monoma and Kaminari whom’s eyes widen as if they were caught doing something they weren’t supposed to.
Izuku is.
Izuku is confused.
“Go for it.” Todoroki deadpans, taking another bite of his Soba.
“Is there any reason Kaminari and Monoma have been following Shinsou around all week?” Tsuyu questions, and now everyone is staring down the two blondes.
All Week? Izuku thinks, and tries hard to remember and- oh. Actually, now that he thinks about it… They have been close by really often. He’s surprised he didn’t notice this, especially since he’s been helping Shinsou with adjustments to his hero costume all week…
Izuku totally misses anything else they say as his thoughts trail and his gaze wanders, a few words like “None of your-, We haven’t-, What??” slip through but as soon as he starts to tune back into whatever Kaminari and Monoma were saying as an excuse he spots Aizawa walking into the area.
Izuku wanted to tell him something… What was it?
The boy stands up, and immediately everyone looks to him. He blinks at the sudden attention, then his eyes widen. Right. There was a conversation going on- “S-sorry.” He apologizes, about to sit back down but,
“It’s fine, go talk to your Dad.” Shinsou teases, making Izuku’s face instantly go red.
“He’s not my-!”
“He’s your Dad, Ribbit.” Tsuyu interrupts, making Izuku’s face go even redder. “Just go talk to him, you finished your food anyways.” She hums, and Izuku, as embarrassed as he is, makes his escape.
He pauses halfway from the table, hearing “you like him, don’t you?” from Tsuyu- and it confuses him a little. But he doesn’t look back to see who she’s talking to, it’s not any of his business. He just walks forward and tries to recall the question he wanted to ask Aizawa while walking towards the tired man now leaning against a wall and watching the two classes eat.
His teacher raises an eyebrow at him, and Izuku stops right in front of him with his head tilted slightly. “I wanted to uh, ask you a question?”
“Mhm..?”
“Uh..” Izuku fidgets in place, raising a hand to his chin and thinking. “Sorry- I forgot it I’m trying to remember... I swear it was important…”
“Take your time.” Is all Aizawa says, as patient as ever.
Well with Izuku he is, anyways.
“Oh! Okay, so you know how we’re gonna visit the orphanages? Well I know this one orphanage I would visit in middle school, not often but.. It supported quirkless people. And um..”
Aizawa connects the dots, eyes softening down at the boy. “Go on.”
Izuku brightens once again and immediately starts rambling about what he wants to do.
At the end of the day Izuku is scrolling through social media on his phone in bed, all ready to go to sleep soon and get ready for a long day tomorrow.
He doesn’t really expect anything to happen tonight so he’s relaxing and-
“Hey, Izuku?”
Izuku’s face immediately goes red and he slowly looks over to Shinsou who’s looking at him with a certain emotion in his eyes Izuku can’t read.
He just called him by his first name.
…
“Y-Yes?” Izuku squeaks out, so unused to.. Being called by his first name rather than Deku or Midoriya.
“Is it okay if I call you that? Izuku?”
“S-Sure! Um. Yeah! That’s okay. Um.. Hitoshi.” Izuku hides his face halfway in his arms, looking off to the side in emotional confusion.
But he does see Hitoshi in the corner of his eyes brighten, and it makes things feel a lot more lighter.
“Awesome.” Hitoshi hums, smiling to himself.
“C-Cool..” Izuku says awkwardly and turns off his phone, placing it on his bedside table, “U-um. I’m gonna… Sleep now..”
“Just one more question before you do?” Hitoshi turns his body towards Izuku, head resting on his hand as he looks at Izuku basically becoming a burrito under the covers.
“m..Mhm..?” The boy stares at Hitoshi through the blankets, trying to hide his face that was slowly losing it’s red-
“Do you want to go on a date with me after all this?”
Izuku is automatically red in the face again, the boy throws his covers off and sits up so fast it almost gives Hitoshi whiplash.
“Y-You can do that???” Izuku questions a little too loud, but he quickly lowers his voice when Hitoshi looks at him with wide eyes. “I-I mean, you can- I can? I can go on a date with a boy?”
Hitoshi, who was tense by the suddenness of Izuku’s actions lets out a relieved sigh and lets himself raise an eyebrow. “Of course you can, were you.. Are you.. Erm.. Sorry if I assumed anything I kind of thought you swung both ways.”
Swung both.. What. “Mom always talked about meeting my wife one day I sorta thought I was expected to.. Um.. Date a girl. I know about um.. Bisexuality and.. All of the others because a lot of people in our class aren’t, erm. Straight? But I didn’t.. I guess I didn’t think I was allowed to like both because everyone else was already… And My Mom-”
“Izuku.” Hitoshi slides off his bed and crouches by Izuku’s, the boy looking down at him in confusion. “You can like whoever you want to like, okay? There’s nothing wrong with that. And I won’t push you to go on a date if you’re not sure- but, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something or be something, okay? I think we had a similar conversation like this when you told me you used to be quirkless.” Hitoshi chuckles, and it gets a small smile out of the boy in front of him. “You can be a hero no matter what and you can like whoever you want to like, okay?”
“So If I started calling Aizawa my Dad that would be acceptable?”
Hitoshi chokes and Izuku immediately freezes.
“Oh my god-”
“N-No! Don’t repeat that to anyone!” Izuku squeaks, “It just came out! D-don’t say a word!”
“Okay-!” Hitoshi wheezes, “Okay! I won’t tell. But yes. Please Please do that I want to see his face when you do.”
“Toshi…”
“Oh my god.. ‘Toshi’… That’s adorable..”
“I do want to go on a date with you.” Izuku so suddenly deadpans.
Hitoshi chokes again and looks up at Izuku with wide eyes. “You do?”
“Mhm.. For some reason you make me really happy.. And.. I want to be with someone that makes me happy.” Izuku hums, looking back to his blankets with a flushed face.
“Yeah well, thank you for giving me a chance. I’m glad that I can make you happy.” Hitoshi’s cheeks are red now as well, “Let’s uh, get to bed now. We can figure the rest out later.” He promises, but just as he stands he gets a big hug from the shorter boy that makes him let out a laugh and hug him back tightly.
“...Thank you.” Izuku mumbles quietly, but Hitoshi still hears it and raises a hand to ruffle Izuku’s hair.
“Don’t thank me yet. I still have to take you on a great date and spoil you a bit to prove that you made the right choice.”
“Wh- Toshi! You don’t have to-” Izuku separates from the hug,
“And that’s where you’re wrong. Because I absolutely have to.”
“You’re cruel…”
“Calling your future boyfriend cruel, I can’t believe this…”
“You’re really confident, what if I say n-no?”
“That’s why I have to prove to you that no one else would take you to a cat cafe, get you katsudon, then surprise you with a limited edition All Might- hah no just kidding, It’d be Eraserhead- figurine.”
Izuku’s mouth gapes open, and Hitoshi snickers when the boy starts pouting.
“...Is that a promise?” Izuku questions, looking down to his socked feet as the blush in his face just won’t go away.
“Hell yeah it is.”
“I will highly consider saying y-yes then.”
“I will take those high chances.” Hitoshi smirks, gently pinching Izuku’s cheek and sitting on his bed.
“Ack- you’re going to be so teasing aren’t you?” Izuku whines, falling onto his back on the bed with a huff.
Hitoshi says nothing but his silence is louder than his words.
“...Right. Goodnight Toshi.”
“My heart clenches every time you call me that.”
“...”
“Goodnight, Izuku.”
Izuku covers his head with his blankets and whines.
Cruel.
