Summary
Wilson copes poorly with Amber's death. House, with his own grief, helps him get through it.
This story can be read as House and Wilson are best friends, or can be read as they're suppressed and gay. It's your choice!
This is a retelling of Season 4. Here's what's different. Amber's death does not prompt Wilson to leave work (for long), House and Wilson never stopped being friends, and House turns a new leaf upon her death - he tries (a little) to be more caring to Wilson.
EXCERPT:
He shut the door behind him. He rolled up his sleeve. Just as he thought, the skin had healed just fine. It was a little tender to touch, sure, but it looked perfectly normal. As if he’d never burned it at all. And for some reason, this thought - this previously relieving thought - became something he felt almost guilty about. Amber deserved a permanent place on him. Amber was everything.
...
What point was there in maintaining your health if the person you wanted to grow old with was gone? He felt her absence surround him like suffocating smoke. And what is smoke without a flame?
