Chapter Text
(January 3rd)
A young boy with long, spiky, black, green-tipped hair; hazel brown eyes; a green jacket with reddish edges; green shorts; and green-lace-up boots came running up to a petite woman with long black hair ending at the middle of her back and black eyes and said, "I've finally caught it, Elaine; now Aunt Mito will allow me to take the Hunters Exam."
"That's wonderful, Gon. Why don't you go tell her while I go start packing up some items that you'll need for the trip" the woman said.
They both nodded in agreement, heading off in separate directions. An hour later, a woman with fair skin, hazel eyes, and orange shoulder-length hair, wearing a red long-sleeved blouse that partly exposed her collarbone over a long cream-colored dress, brown shoes, and a blue torc around her neck. This woman presumed to be Aunt Mito walked in with the young boy named Gon. They both stopped at the dinner table and sat down. The woman then yelled, "Elaine, could you come down here?"
"I'll be there in a quick moment," the woman named Elaine, who seemed to be upstairs, said.
Elaine walks down the stairs and sits at the table next to Gon to hear what Aunt Mito needed to say. "Elaine," Aunt Mito started, pausing to make sure she had her attention. "I know he may have caught 'The Lord of the Lake' as I asked, and I will keep my promise, but I'm still worried."
"I understand and feel the same way, but this was also the age that Ging left; this may be what Gon needs to learn how to be an adult," Elaine says.
"Fine... if it helps, then I'll grin and bear it," Aunt Mito said with a stressed tone in her voice.
"Hey, if it puts you at ease, I'll go with him," Elaine said with a calming tone.
"Honestly, yeah, that would make me feel better. Are you ok with her tagging along, Gon?" Aunt Mito asks.
"Sure, I don't see why not being around Aunt Elaine sounds fun, especially if it makes you happier with my situation," Gon replies.
"Plus this also gives me a reason to start looking for my fiancé," Elaine says.
"Fiance?!" Both Mito and Gon say in unison.
"Yeah, when I was younger I made a promise to my first crush that we'd get married when we were older," Elaine replies.
"Now let's get back on topic. Gon, finish packing and go to sleep," Mito says.
Both Elaine and Gon leave the table to start packing what they'll need for the trip.

For Elaine to feel that she's ready for tomorrow, she decides to lay out her clothes in advance. Once her clothes for tomorrow were laid out, she decided to start packing the rest of her things for the long journey ahead, knowing it's going to be longer than just obtaining a hunter's license since Gon, her godson, was most likely going to get started on looking for his absentee father, Ging Freecs.
The first thing Elaine grabbed was a little floral 6 1/2 x 5 x 3-inch tin container filled with a mixture of pictures of Gon growing up over the years, pictures of her technical fiancé and his family over the years since the time that she left her home, and a few pictures of her accomplishments or adventures. She places this tiny tin container in an elegant black and white side satchel that was enhanced with her to be bottomless. She then grabbed a tiny, thin, 3-inch-long wand that had a button on its side. Once she placed it in the satchel, Elaine grabbed a small cherry blossom-patterned drawstring bag and placed this in the satchel as well. She puts multiple sets of regular and pajama clothes in her bag. After she decides to go to bed early, knowing tomorrow is going to be a long day.

(Fast Forward—Tomorrow morning, Thursday, January 4th)
As soon as Elaine was awake, she got dressed in her clothes that were placed at the end of her bed. She decided to look into the mirror, and what looked back was a petite young woman in a black, white-tipped, golden-embroidered mini jacket with a long, flowy, yellow, see-through-ish sweetheart neckline shirt underneath.
Under the shirt was a pair of very short black gridded shorts that were barely able to be seen. On top of the shirt was a simple silver purple jewel necklace that she decided to, at that exact moment, hide by placing it under her flowy shirt right in between her breasts. Her eyes glanced over the simple chain bracelet styled after the traditional Greek keys on two of such links were two studs one a garnet the other an aquamarine kept together by a toggle lock upon her wrist, smiling at it.
As her eyes wandered lower, she saw her favorite thigh highs, a pair of long, cream-colored, flower-tip-shaped socks that ended mid-thigh and almost always accentuated her legs. Around her right ankle was a thin and elegant butterfly ring leglet that was infused with her own nen.
Before leaving her room, Elaine grabbed a black fan and a brand new set of anime episodes, knowing she would need it for later. She places both items in her satchel. Giving a second look at her appearance, she decides to place a tiny purple flower hair ornament on and in her hair.
Once she was confident in her attire, she turned towards the bedroom door, grasping the handle and eventually opening it. She turns around again, taking a glance at her pastel-designed room one more time, knowing this will probably be the last time she does so for a while or at all. She sighs and leaves the room.
She walks down the stairs, deciding to look at the clock on the wall to her right just so she could figure out the time. She sees that it's 7:30 a.m. and decides in advance to go to the door for her to put on her shoes, knowing that her godson will likely be down soon and will probably want her ready to go. She steps into a pair of plain black pump heels.
As if on cue, she hears a commotion coming from the kitchen and realizes her godson is already at the table so he can begin to eat his breakfast before leaving for the boat. Elaine walks in and sits down across from Gon, in which a plate of 3 pancakes with whipped cream on top and strawberries on the edges is placed in front of her.
Thankfully for Elaine, she was hungry enough to eat this morning. A cup of coffee with a tiny pitcher of milk and a bowl of sugar is placed in front of her. Knowing what to do, she grabs the pitcher, pours some of the milk into her coffee mug, and then grabs a spoon to pour four spoonfuls of sugar in as well.
As soon as both Gon and Elaine were finished with breakfast along with the cleanup the three were out the front door on their way down to the dock just so they could make it to the boat off the Island in time. Once they got to the boat Aunt Mito pulled the two in for a hug in which they reciprocated. They started from the embrace to see each other's faces wet with tears rolling down their faces. "He'll be fine Mito I promise you that" Elaine said with a reassuring smile on her face.
"I know still, I'll miss you both very much, Gon please be safe for me okay?" Mito said shedding a few tears in the process.
Gon nodded in agreement to which the two left to get on the boat. The two waved goodbye to Mito and the other inhabitants of Whale Island as the ship started its departure. As soon as Whale Island was out of view, not Elaine and Gon started to settle down having no idea of the adventures to come.

(Fast forward a week later Friday, December 31st, 6:30 a.m. Dolle Harbor)
The two finally arrived, having made two new friends on the boat in the process. Heeding the captain's warning, the four departed from the boat in search of the hunter's exam site.
"Before we get going, Gon could you come over here for a quick moment?" Elaine said.
"Sure!" He exclaims before happily walking towards her, once he's standing directly in front of her, he asks, "What is it, Elaine?"
"Since this is something you really wanted and can technically be seen as a test of your resolve, I will not be holding your hand each step of the way. In doing so, this is where we part ways. I will see you at the testing site, Gon," Elaine says.
Gon nods in agreement at her statement, understanding each word she says."Kurapika... Leorio..." Elaine says
In which she turns to a young man with medium-length blond hair with dark grey eyes. Wearing a blue tabard decorated with a red hem and a white full-body training suit underneath. With a pair of Chinese-style winkle-picker flats, she knows as Kurapika. Along with Leorio, a tall, manly-looking, fairly muscular young man with small brown eyes, black hair, and a spiked crew cut. Wearing a dark blue business suit, black shoes, and a pair of tea-shade sunglasses. The two turn to her, allowing Elaine to speak. "Though we haven't known each other for long, I know for a fact that you two are trustworthy. In doing so, all I ask is that you keep an eye on Gon for me."
Both men agree to her plea, in which all three males turn back around, waving their hands and saying their goodbyes to the young woman.
As soon as the three were out of sight, Elaine walked to the nearest dark alley and touched the wall with her palm. She closes her eyes, and as she opens them once again, in front of her is a small and flat disc-like object that just so happens to be a portal. She moved through it, and on the other side was Zaban City, which was where the Hunters exam was supposedly being held.

Throughout the couple of hours of her time in Zaban City, Elaine was able to not only find the exact location of the testing site but also learn the supposed passcode to get in, due to the fact that her ears were more sensitive and heightened compared to the average human. In front of her was an average rundown traditional Japanese-style eatery that just so happened to be the holder of this year's testing site. She slid open the screen door in which the chef greeted her. She then made direct eye contact with the chef before saying, "Is the back room open?"
To which the chef stared at her intently before responding with, "What will you be having?"
She then responds with, "The steak combo that opens your eyes to the light for one."
He then asks, "How would you like it?"
Elaine responds, "Grilled over a low flame till cooked."
In which the chef nods, telling her that she may see herself to the back room. As soon as she's in the room and has seated herself, the room starts to move, implying that the testing site is underground. Once the room stops, the doors open, allowing her to see a big, dimly lit room.
