Summary
“Okay, yeah—let me rinse the soap off—not like it helped—and I’ll get my phone.”
But he didn’t get a chance to do that, as Chris had apparently already dialed because suddenly he was talking. “Dad, you’re not gonna believe what happened—no, no, I’m okay—really, yeah—nope, not even close—”
“Chris, give me the phone!” Buck said, reaching for him, but the kid was faster than you’d think, skilled at dodging.
“Buck got his finger stuck in a spoon—no, a spoon, Dad—yeah, I don’t know—no, like a wooden one—Buck was explaining why it had a hole, and then his finger was stuck—”
“Chris, phone!”
Chris and Buck are starting on Thanksgiving dinner while Eddie finishes out his shift, except they hit a little hiccup in their plans when a simple wooden spoon with a hole meant to help blend ingredients is set in front of the most impulsive man to ever stand in a kitchen.
So wearing a wooden spoon as a ring, Buck sits on the couch and talks with Chris while they wait for Eddie to come to the rescue.

Summary
His mind is already flashing with a thousand possibilities; snapshots of every work-related accident he’s encountered in his seven years on the job, the all-too-familiar of image of Eddie’s body unnaturally lifeless in the hospital bed, breathless in a way that never fails to make Buck want to claw out his own lungs and transplant them into Eddie’s chest. Already scrambling for his keys, heart alight in terror, he frantically chokes out, “What happened? Is he okay?”
There’s a pause on the other end of the line. “Actually,” a rustle of files, “We were calling about a girl by the name of June Foster."
Buck’s mind blanks.
“We believe her to be your daughter.”
or, the story of how buck discovers he has a six-year-old daughter, spirals a bit, becomes an astronaut in training, kisses the love of his life, makes lasagna, and learns that his heart might just be the perfect place to build a home, all in seven days.
