Avery has always been special. At least, that’s what his mother used to say when he stayed in his room for days at a time, the glowing screen of his crappy laptop his only companion.
There wasn’t much else Avery did these days ever since he moved out and got his own place in the suburbs. It’s as far away from his parents as his limited funds allowed.
After finishing the last chapter of the romance game he recently acquired, Avery closes the game and looks at the time displayed on the bright screen. 5:27 AM.
The moment his head hits the lumpy pillow his eyes shut and sleep takes him.
As awareness slowly starts to claw at Avery’s sleeping mind he feels the soft grass beneath him. Avery’s eyes snap open.
He pushes himself up and looks around. Soft green grass stretches in every direction, broken only by tall trees rising into the sky. Their thick canopy casts shifting shadows across the ground.
A forest.
And he is right in the middle of it.– OR –

"Hello, Chris," sings a honeyed voice from behind.
Chris' attention snaps toward the intruder, his gun already out of its' holster and aimed at whoever it is — a boy, apparently, with braided russet hair, a red jacket, and wise eyes.
