Summary
Janet Drake and Marilyn Batson looked like sisters or even twins, despite the three years age difference. They had been TA and Student until Janet finished her degree and married Jack, then when Marilyn graduated and married Clarence, they became colleagues. They weren't often on digs together, but when they were one April 1st, they decided to prank their husbands by switching places for the day. They had had a few swinger nights in the past, but this time there was no protection used and Janet got pregnant. She never told Jack, Timothy looked like him, so why bother? He might have actually been Jack's for all she knew. Then Marilynn and Clarence were killed in a cave in and she and Jack were called in to finish the project. Looking at the boy who was probably the dead man's son hurt too much, so she just didn't. Then she and Jack were poisoned for their less than legal activities and it wasn't her problem anymore because she was dead.

“You should get to know the Todd boy,” Mom had insisted. “You’re at the same school – I mean, it’s practically divine providence!”
Tim wouldn’t go that far. He’s seen Jason around a few times since he started high school this year and he generally looks mulish and tired, not to mention a foot taller than him. The job his parents have given him tonight – becoming best friends with the second Wayne heir – seems somewhere between optimistic and impossible.
He doesn’t say any of this to his parents, however. He’s no fool.
Or: Tim and Jason meet at a gala. Tim can’t be lonely, even if he doesn’t have any friends at school, cause he’s always surrounded by people. There. Easy. Jason, on the other hand, isn’t just lonely – he’s the street rat in a sea of rich kids, and they make sure he never forgets it. Perhaps divine providence isn’t too inaccurate after all.
Alternatively, the one where Jason gets cast in the school musical, Tim's trying to figure out why Robin's getting bullied, and Jack and Janet Drake are on the hunt. Trouble's afoot...

Summary
They weren’t supposed to be friends, but they were, and it was their cosmic “screw-off” to the universe.
Tim was so far removed from those without money– whether it was because Jack and Janet didn’t want him socializing with anyone “below them” or because Tim was generally not very social. Maybe this was his act of rebellion, or this was one person that he clicked with. Maybe it was the fact he and Billy were so into superheroes that it all worked out.
