    Summary

    A new noise is ripped from Simon’s throat, something involuntary and primal. The pain spreads throughout his body, but so does another sensation.

    Pleasure.
    Our movement hesitates for a moment as we process the taste of it. It doesn’t taste like anything we’ve encountered before. It’s instantly addictive.
    He’s trying to rationalize the feeling to himself. It’s oxygen deprivation or shock even, but the pressure growing in his groin betrays him.

    “You like the way it hurts, don’t you?”

    Trapped at the bottom of a crimson sea, The Convict searches for salvation at any cost. Unbeknownst to him, the creature inhabiting this moon has a taste for the turmoil boiling within him. It has been watching and waiting for the moment to make itself known, to save him, and show him the light.

    (In which the hive-mind consciousness of the monster falls for the convict. Does not follow the exact chronological events of the Iron Lung movie.)

    Summary

    Confirmation bias: the human tendency to search for, interpret, and recall information that aligns with our existing beliefs, while ignoring or dismissing evidence that contradicts them.

    No matter what Grace tries to tell him, Simon is very sure that the man is divine in nature. It just makes sense.

    ~~~
    Simon winds up in The Enclosure, naturally. Grace is super down to have human company on planet Erid, but he really wishes someone would have given him a little bit of warning first. Especially about Simon’s religious cult upbringing — if he had known about that, he maybe could have planned a better-worded greeting that wasn’t basically, “Be Not Afraid.” He really set them up for failure with that one.
