“I’m not married.” Jim glared into the ready room’s tiny triangular monitor anchored in the middle of the table.“Does T'Pau know that?” Commodore Kithari raised an eyebrow. “Son, we all read the report on that ‘Vulcan Wedding’.”
Jim shook his head, sighing. “The wedding was canceled.”
“Right. About that. Vulcans are insanely secretive about their culture, but the Bolian Institute of Linguistics experts are all convinced that since Spock didn’t marry T’Pring but did complete the ritual…” she shrugged, then gave him a saucy wink. “Listen. Just roll with it.”
“That’s what he did on the sands of Vulcan.” Beside Jim, McCoy took another sip of his bourbon laced coffee. “Which is why we’re in this situation now.”
Kithari shot Bones a knowing smile. He raised his mug to her, mostly to hide his return smirk.
“It’s only ten days, Jim,” Kithari grinned at him. “You can handle a special ambassadorial guest for ten days.”

“Captain, we’re receiving a distress call,” said Uhura.“Not today,” Jim Kirk put his open paperback on one knee, took off his glasses, and sighed. “We don’t have time. Is there a Starfleet ship nearby?”
“It’s from a Starfleet ship, Captain,” said Uhura.
“What madness have those idiots stumbled into now?” Sulu muttered.
“Forgot how turn kettle on,” Chekov grinned. “Need mama to make tea and wipe baby mouth.”
Kirk glared at the screen. The Starfleet ship wasn’t even visible yet, though that had as much to do with his own ship’s outdated sensors as it did with the aggressiveness of Starfleet’s signals.
“He has a point, Uhura. Is this a real crisis or are they panicking because the manual doesn’t describe their exact situation?”
Uhura tilted her head sideways, dark eyes sparkling behind her thick glasses as she listened to the message again. “Apparently there’s a… monster? On the ship. Whatever the cause, they’ve found six dead crewmembers so far, all with a set of ten small circular red wounds on their faces.”

Summary
Shenanigans ensue when one middle finger to the Academy too many gets Starfleet Cadet James T. Kirk booted off planet for a summer internship aboard the V.S.S. Sh'Raan.
He's hiding a major secret from the oh so earnest and helpful Vulcans, but the longer he's on the ship, the more Jim starts to wonder if they're keeping secrets from him, too.

Captain Spisee handed Jim a heavy sheet of rich, cream paper embossed with gold dusted Vulcan calligraphy bearing the ship’s name. It was a bit cheap by the standards of Vulcan stationary aesthetics, but shipboard life meant some sacrifices. In the most elegant handwriting he’d ever had the privilege to lay eyes on, it read:

“Were you both Vulcans, then upon the sealing of their adult bond you would share a treasured memory of your son’s childhood with his new spouse.”
“Psi null.” Jim tapped his temple with one finger.
“But I am not,” said Sarek. “If you permit me, I would join both your minds and allow you to see how Spock, at a mere eight months of age, prevented a diplomatic disaster.”
Amanda grinned. “You’ll also get to see me when I was young and hot!”

Scattered amongst flyers the paper stood out. Clearly not like the others.Jim took the sheet off the board and read it.
