Rio squeezed her fingers tighter in her hand. She hadn't been able to stop thinking about those sharp, blue eyes since she sat down. It was more than distracting.
"Uh," Rio opened her mouth, then mentally smacked herself in the face. Agatha raised a brow at her, then leaned back in her seat slightly. Her attention went back to the monitor and it didn't look like it was coming back to Rio.
The interview felt more like a humiliation ritual.
Which was why Rio nearly dropped her phone onto the busy street when she got the call that she'd been hired.

Rio has been working for Agatha Harkness and avoiding going back to her hometown for three wonderful years.
It's an irritating job to say the least, having to deal with her boss's erratic temper, wild schedule, and even wilder requests, but Rio rolls with the punches. Once she's figured Agatha out, everything becomes easy.
Until the day Agatha requests a marriage, a divorce, and a trip to the town she's been avoiding.

She doesn’t even get to order the damned beer before there’s a blood-curdling scream from upstairs, and she’s off like a shot.
Halfway up, she’s met by none other than Madam Rio, and Rio looks fit to kill. Agatha has the fleeting notion she’s about to be shoved down the stairs and instinctively sidesteps as Rio gets close.
“That you screamin’?” she asks.
“You don’t know my scream by now?” Rio snaps.
Agatha hooks her thumbs in her belt loops and puffs out her cheeks. “I s’pose y’do it often enough, I ought to know it. What’s wrong this time?”

Agatha Harkness is the sheriff of Westview, a small town that flourishes due to the whorehouse above the saloon. Emma gasped in horror, moving to step around him and face the monster head on. He had a moment of sudden clarity, enough to sheath his blade, drop the woman off his shoulder and turn; gripping Emma to him with a force that pushed the breath from his lungs. Black smoke circled them, her hands darted out, grabbing the back of his coat, fingers digging into the leather, tight shudders wracking her frame, her face buried in the lapels of his coat. Crackling sparks whirled around them; lightning in a storm of darkness.
He couldn’t breathe. Emma pressed tightly to him. She was crying, screaming into his chest; angry and terrified. The lightning intensified until it blinded him. So different then the portal, or any other thing he had ever been trapped in. Killian bent his face to Emma’s head, and spoke urgently to her, doubting greatly that she could hear him over his hammering heart and the violent maelstrom of magic they stood in the eye of, uttering promises he would die to keep, a promise to never leave her, to get her home, to find her family again.

Her eyes were framed by purple mascara, star-shaped earrings swaying as she turned her head.
"I need you," the woman said simply. "No, your help. I need you to be my girlfriend for the evening."
With every ounce of her willpower, Rio stifled the urge to agree instantly without a second thought, merely to be close to this woman for a few more minutes.
"Is this what they call flirting nowadays?" she hummed, as though thoughtfully.
The corner of the stranger's lips twitched upwards. "Believe me, pretty one, if I were flirting, you would know."
Then she grinned and Rio had to push her tongue against the inside of her cheek to hold back a laugh.
