Lambert doesn’t return home one winter, but his medallion does; brought to the Keep by a Cat witcher none of them had ever met.
A witcher who claims he knew Lambert, in a deeper way than half of them suspect.
A witcher from a school that was expressly not allowed at the Keep, whose school had a history of hating them and who they tended to hate back.
The Path closes before Aiden can leave, forcing them to spend the winter getting to know the man, getting past their prejudices, grieving, and getting to know their fallen brother all over again in the process.

It’s almost 2 months after the Mountain Incident and Jaskier is sitting at a tavern, drinking his sorrows away. About Geralt, his sorry state of being (no lute, low on coin, alone), fall of Cintra just 2 weeks ago, fate and everything else. He though he was going to stay by the witcher’s side forever, but life’s no fairy tale. So more ale for him.
In the corner Nilfgaardian soldiers get ready to kidnap the bard and give him to their wicked sorceress leader to force information from him about the lost princess. She may torture and curse him to get what they need, but hey, what can you expect from Fringilla Vigo’s student?Geralt’s 100% done with destiny. He’s with Ciri and has to hide from Nilfgaard's forces. And he still has to find Yennefer and beg her to locate his bard, damn it! And he needs to apologise if he wants to get his “dear heart” back.
Yennefer licks her wound hidden in Brudge and contemplates her life.
Triss helps fellow mages in Vizima.Lambert and Eskel travel south in search of Geralt, because they got letters from his bard saying their brother will need help.
Oh, and they don’t even know about half of the shitshow it’s about to become. Truly ballad worthy story. -

If one didn’t know the two, you’d be sure to believe the boys hated each other’s guts, but if you actually had the pleasure of having made their acquaintance, you knew that Oliver Wood and Marcus Flint were best friends, and no stupid fights, tie colour or profanities exchanged on the Quidditch pitch would change that.

Small things, habits picked up in many days and nights together, learning each other quirks without ever pointing them out, without ever judging but simply accepting them and learning what to do with them, cause they know fully well that sometimes fighting and fucking until they were out of energy was not enough, cause they were on edge and everything threatened to set their nerves off, so their best chance was trying to smooth out the razor-sharp corners of their frustration with soft touches and whispered words in the quiet.
Lambert finds out about Aiden's death and has a hard time coping with it. He seems to be way too emotional for someone who's not even supposed to have feelings.
Learning to be alone again is a complicated thing, and the fact that cats follow him around everywhere doesn't help. In a certain way, he's not really all alone.Bookmarked by dNib

Summary
Jaskier is on his way to the Bardic Festival in Vizima by himself.
Geralt has been acting strangely since the events that occurred in Rinde and he's become distant. Despite the other Witchers' reassurances that his moodiness is fairly normal, Jaskier isn't quite convinced. On top of his worries, Jaskier is once again confronted by Valdo Marx and he comes to learn what viscous rivalry really means.
