Summary
The Qinghe Nie's traditional marriage hunt is meant to help showcase the abilities of both the hunters and the hunted, in order to help bring together auspicious pairings through the push and pull of strength and cunning.
Too bad none of the Jin who were practically thrown into the woods by their Sect Leader know that. Meng Yao finds himself forced to participate and ends up catching the eye of the Nie Sect Leader himself. If only he knew the man thought him beautiful for his cunning and ferocity, and not for what his waifish body could give him.
i.e., sort of mating run, sort of arranged marriage au where Meng Yao doesn't realize that Nie Mingjue is trying to court him because he thinks he is the man's sex slave.

Lan Wangji receives a letter that sends him to visit Wei Wuxian at Lotus Pier, not knowing that the request he received has him processing his feelings for the Omega more quickly, and he also finds a newly disgraced Meng Yao, who just so happened to be at the center of his brother's affection.
